Motivated

Been meaning to write an entry for three weeks. Struggled to find time and been exhausted by late evening. Had a great time meeting the PP crew in Amsterdam. Felt like a family reunion. Everyone was so nice. And also so interesting! I think I was the only one who hadn’t lived in more than one country and only spoke one language. Great bunch of people, and we had an awesome few days together. Less work and more play than I expected. Ace boat ride through the city at sunset and super-fun improv theatre workshop (which I thought would be awkward and challenging but was actually a total blast). The city was cool too. Felt big, spacious, and chill, even though there’s tons to do and see. Not like cramped, rushed, stressful London at all. The Dutch are very cool and casual but still get shit done. City living doesn’t appeal to me these days, but if it did, Amsterdam would be high on the list.

Spring is finally here: feels like winter lasted forever and suddenly here we are, just two months away from the summer solstice. Motivated to get on top of the garden this summer. Finally ripping those jungle flower beds up. Built a play area for the kids in the front garden, which has gone well. Next job is to build a fire area with a chiminea (at Ansel’s request), then a wood store for the fuel (I forgot how much I enjoy woodwork/timber construction, so that will be a fun project).

Driving around, I’ve been marvelling at the trees (most of which still don’t have their leaves yet). It’s amazing how they’re asymmetrical yet always look completely spatially/geometrically balanced from any angle. Nature just has an unfathomable way of being right. It’s crazy powerful.

Found out Mat next door has terminal bowel cancer. Haven’t seen him for ages until last weekend when we went to his and Sarah’s wedding reception. Lovely afternoon but strange circumstances, and the man did not look well. Sad reality.

Currently obsessing over screenplays after watching a Tarantino documentary. Lots of technical storytelling stuff to learn from them. And a good screenplay reads well—sometimes better than the movie.

Still no new clients, but I’ve still not yet scaled my outreach. Built a new website yesterday, as it felt like a missing link. Also did a course that made a few things click about connecting social content to client acquisition. Plus I have a new ICP to target and some untapped network connections. New site will go live next week then the focus will be (finally) outreach. Feeling super motivated and excited. Onward!
