Snow day

I took the boys to Pirates Play Center this morning. It ended with a beautiful moment where they were laid together on the spinner in the toddler area. Ansel was cuddling Zen, who did his lying still on his front thing and fell asleep. Ansel was stroking his hair and smiling and starting to doze, too. The whole while, they were slowly spinning around together on this padded disc. Other adults were swooning over the adorable scene. It’s the sweetest I’ve seen them be together since we first brought Zen home and Ansel cuddled and kissed him. I also broke my little toe pushing Ansel around the police car track. That familiar cold, dull feeling. Nothing to see at first, but big and purple when I removed my sock in the evening.

It rounded out a lovely family-focused week. We had big snow last Sunday, so had to change our plans and have a home day. It felt great all being home together with no plans and nowhere to be. We lounged around and played, built a snowman, and I took Ansel for his first sledge ride around the village, where we made some snowballs from a big patch of virgin snow and threw them into the road before Nannabel and Poppa came to visit and I hung out TV on the wall and sawed the TV cabinet in half to make it lower profile and open the room space out more. Great day—chill, structureless, but fun and productive.

Char and I visited two prospective schools for Ansel this week, and they were both good. One was fantastic, in fact. The first was a CoE school. Religious, but it didn’t seem too religious. Well-managed, and I could see Ansel doing well there. And the other school was incredible. Art all over the walls. Such a great vibe and ethos. Kids painting on easels, practising their Christmas play, excitedly running up to teachers to hug them and tell them things. And a cool library bus at the top of the field. I liked it so much that I felt emotional walking round. Exactly the type of school I would have loved as a kid.

The boys had their nursery Christmas song show at church yesterday. Char did a fab job dressing the boys up, but they were both too shy/intimidated to stand and sing with the rest of the kids at the front of the church. They sat on our knees and watched from the pews instead.

Then I took Ansel swimming, and he was sick in the pool after gagging on a mouthful of water. Which meant the pool had to be closed and the Saturday public swim canceled. Oops.

Finished the weekend with Ansel decorating the Christmas tree, which he loved doing. Zen helping as best he could. So sweet to see.

Still no new clients, but been working on my positioning and figuring out the best outreach approach. Lots to consider and work on. But the plan is taking shape. Couple of opportunities to follow up on this coming week.
